WhatsApp Group Description, search participants, switch to video call features now available for Android

WhatsApp for Android gets updated with a range of new features. The latest version of WhatsApp app for Android adds some new features to make group communication more interesting and interactive. These features include - group description and search participants. Additionally, WhatsApp also brings along an interesting feature to Android that let users switch between voice and video calls simultaneously without having to disconnect the ongoing call.

All the three newly added features to WhatsApp for Android were spotted on Android beta version in the past. These features are now available in the stable version of WhatsApp for Android and users can get them after updating the application to the latest version by heading to Google Play store.

Here's explaining the new group-focused features, the Group Description, as the name suggests let members of a particular group add a description to the group. This feature works similar to how we add description to our personal profiles. To use this feature, all that you will need to do is go to the "Group Info" section of the group, you will be able to see the "Description" section right below the name of the group. Click on it, enter the description of the group, and click on OK.

It is noteworthy that anyone in the group can change the Group Description, much like how the group name works. After you change the description of the group, everyone in the group including yourself will get a notification stating - "Sneha changed the group description. Tap to view". The description can notably be as long as 512 characters.

Moving forward to the second feature added to the group, search participant. This new feature includes an option to enable searching of group participants directly from the Group Info screen. Back to when the feature was available in beta version, both the group features were spotted testing for Windows as well. This indicates that both these group focused features are set to hit Windows, followed by iOS users.

Lastly, the new WhatsApp for Android finally gets the most awaited and rumoured switch between voice and video calls feature. This feature, as the name suggests lets users simultaneously switch between voice and video calls. This means, users will no longer need to disconnect the voice call to make a video call their friends. Instead, they can simply switch from voice to video calls and vice versa. It should be noted that the feature will work only if the person you are calling also has the WhatsApp app for Android updated to the latest version.
